Breath-taking views and exciting theme trails and hiking circuits await you. Both experienced hikers and leisurely walkers will find just the right trails.

If your children are coming along, you can turn your hike into a treasure hunt by using a GPS receiver to search for hidden geocache locations along the way.

Bicycling

Regardless whether you like mountain biking or road biking, you’ll discover wonderful routes around Andermatt. The numerous bike trails are ideal for mountain bike tours. Or on your road bike you can conquer the eight Alp passes and take in the magnificent views from the top.

Climbing

Andermatt offers climbing enthusiasts a variety of climbing areas and fixed-rope routes for various skill levels. But you are always safe when you climb, so that the experience will be a thrill but never a risk. Your children can even climb with you.

Golf

Golfers will find one of the most attractive golf courses in the Alps at Andermatt: the 18-hole par 72 championship golf course. The course, designed to strict ecological standards, was only recently opened by Andermatt Swiss Alps. In the surrounding Gotthard region you will find three additional golf courses.

Winter days out in the snow

Andermatt is very popular in the winter, mainly as a sports paradise. You can wind your way down the slopes on skis, a snowboard or a toboggan, or you can trek through the fresh snow on snowshoes. The Ursern Valley also offers winter sports fans excellent possibilities for classical cross-country skiing and ice-skating.

Ski areas

  • The Gemsstock is a terrific ski area at 2961 metres a.s.l. The snow-sure area is served by a gondola cableway as well as several lifts. «Fit for Fun» magazine calls it the best ski area in the Alps.
  • The Gemsstock is also very popular among freeriders.
  • With its sunny slopes, Nätschen is ideal for families and leisure skiers.
  • The ski areas of Sedrun and Disentis are both nearby. The ski areas of Sedrun and Andermatt are being merged to form the SkiArena Andermatt-Sedrun. With over 120 kilometres of slopes, it will be the largest ski area in central Switzerland. The SkiArena is being sustainably planned in dialogue with environmental organisations.
  • The Ursern Valley also offers a dense network of cross-country trails, sure to make the heart of every cross-country skier beat faster.

Snowshoe trekking and tobogganing

If skiing and snowboarding are a bit too daring for your taste, then snowshoe trekking might be just your thing. Because snowshoes are suitable for all types and depths of snow, you can go out in any weather, and you are not dependent on specially prepared trails.

Sledging and tobogganing are also superb in Andermatt. The toboggan run on the sunny mountainside of Andermatt is ideal for children and promises great fun for the whole family.

Gemütlichkeit

For those who like it cosy and relaxing, a romantic ride in a horse-drawn sleigh through the snow-covered countryside is just the thing. Enjoy the peacefulness and beauty of Andermatt, cuddled into a thick woollen blanket.

If the weather is unpleasant

Every now and then the Andermatt sky becomes unfriendly. For times like these, the village offers a diversified cultural and recreational programme for summer and winter.

Fitness, swimming and wellness

The hotels in Andermatt offer their guests, and sometimes outside visitors too, unique fitness and wellness facilities for relaxation and regeneration. The indoor pool at Sedrun is also nearby and can be reached by car or public transport within an hour.

Shopping and attractions

The traditional village centre, with many small stores and businesses, is enticing for strolling and shopping. The village church of St. Peter and Paul along with its cemetery is also well worth a visit.

If you are interested in history, you mustn’t miss the chance to visit the Urseren Valley Museum in Andermatt. In this patrician house dating from 1786, with a magnificent living room as the centrepiece, local life around 1780/1800 is elucidated. Here you will also find out about the history and culture of the valley, local tourism, the military and alpine farming and industry.

In the evening

After a day in the snow you can savour a delicious fondue or take a warm bath in the hot pot. And if you like music, evenings in Andermatt offer plenty to hear, including wonderful classical music concerts and also rock and pop concerts.

Outstanding solo musicians perform in the evenings in the comfortable Bar and in The Living Room in The Chedi Andermatt hotel and in many other bars and restaurants in the village.

Of course, many opportunities for après ski are also tempting. Or just enjoy a relaxing nightcap before you sink into bed, filled with thoughts of the eventful day.

The new Holiday Village Andermatt Reuss

Andermatt Swiss Alps has been developing the new Holiday Village Andermatt Reuss since 2010. So as not to spoil the natural charm of Andermatt, the development is based on strict sustainability principles.

Only renewable energy sources are used, and the resort centre will be kept car-free. Inspired by the traditional architecture of the region, the new apartment houses blend beautifully into the historic townscape of the village.

Once complete, the Holiday Village Andermatt Reuss will include six new 4- and 5-star hotels, 500 holiday apartments in 42 buildings, and around 28 exclusive chalets, to be custom designed after each parcel is purchased.

Non-Swiss persons can buy these holiday apartments and houses too, because here in Andermatt the properties are exempt from laws which normally restrict such purchases.

The project also includes the SkiArena Andermatt-Sedrun as well as the new golf course.

Andermatt an attractive all year destination

Andermatt an attractive all year destination because you can enjoy Andermatt in all its resplendence any time of the year.

Whether you rent a comfortable holiday apartment, book a luxurious hotel room or move into your own chalet – you will feel the charm of this beautiful locality everywhere in and around Andermatt.
